My husband and I love to go on cruises. We have always have a strict budget and plan for everything! Since we have always prepaid our gratuities, we never even considered given extra on our cruises because we just considered that already taken care of by prepaying. But this time we decided to pick two individuals and share a little extra. One person was a member of our wait staff that was shy and a little clumsy, he did a fine job but we could tell he was new and lacking confidence. When we gave him our gift of appreciation, i thought he was going to cry. He was so gracious. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the first time he had been tipped extra, but i hope it wont be the last! The other was our cabin steward. There were three teens and two adults in one cabin and he never let it look that way, he even iced down our bottle of champagne without us even asking. We debarked on Valentines day, we simply left a very kind note and a “cheesy” cheap plastice heart necklace with a valentine sucker and his extra gratuity. We didnt see his reaction as we had to leave…..but i know it is appreciated. These staff members work so hard and we just wanted to make them smile. After the cruise, we got the honor of stopping by and visiting with Emma. She has taught me that you dont have to have a lot to give, just giving your time and a kind gesture is enough to turn someones day around. She continues to touch our hearts!
