I was talking to my boss Ruth about children with Autism and Special needs not being invited or including in activities and going to the mall to see Santa can be overwhelming because of all the noise and people. So from this discussion, we put together a Breakfast With Santa for kids with Autism and Special Needs. Between word of mouth, invitations, and Facebook, on Saturday December 5th, in Roanoke, Virginia, we had over 105 people show up for this event. This was open to the community and no cost. I brought the idea of collecting books and having a tribute to Emma in each book to my boss. She agreed and thought it was a good idea. I put together a book drive and we were able to collect over 100 kids books. The memory card for Emma was glued in each book and each child that came to the Breakfast With Santa was able to pick a book out. On the book table was picture of Emma & her story. Emma’s memory has spread to our community because of this. Even though we never met her, her legacy and memory will live on in the love of reading and good deeds. I am very fortunate that the support of my boss and the company I work for made this an amazing event that all children in attendance enjoyed. May Emma never be forgotten.
