The Gift of Time

This isn’t a story of a random act of kindness but it happened because of your Emma. My son asked me to go hunting with him. I would usually tell him no because I am not very interested in hunting but I thought about your Emma and how this was a chance that I would never dream of passing up if I knew it was going to be my last day with him. When we went, I saw a side of my son that I haven’t seen in a while. He was patient, laughing and gentle as he helped me get my license (we had taken the hunter safety course together earlier) and helped me find camo and orange. When we went, he took me to a deer stand and I said there is no way I am getting in a deer stand. I am scared of heights. Isn’t there somewhere I can hunt from the ground? He said no, you can do it Mom. Then again, I thought to myself, Emma was encouraging like this. If he thinks I can do it, then I can do it. So I climbed up and it took me a while and a lot of giggling from him but I did it! As he walked away he said, I hope you get the big one! And he went to his deer stand. When it was dark, he came back to get me and explained the correct way to get down and giggled again as I mustered the courage to do it. We talked and talked on the way to the car about what we saw, etc. All the time I was thinking, my goodness, what a gift of time this was for me from my son.

Thank you for reminding me the gift I have with my children and to never take advantage of it. Thank you for sharing Emma. Emma’s beauty will never be forgotten.
